I learned something of importance recently. When roofing material mfg. companies go out of business there is no 25 or 40 year guarantee by the installer period. You are on your own for the cost to tear off the faulty product and replace the composition etc roof. However, a roofing salesman told me that if you purchase a roofing product with a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval they (Good Housekeeping) will back up the mfgs. warranty. Please confirm this.

What kind of siding is recommended for an old 2 story house? Foam backed vinyl (no paint) or Smartsiding (3 coats) and what about insulation like Tyvek?
